THE RICH HISTORY OF THE ANDALUSIAN HORSE
The Andalusian Horse has influenced and glorified the world's equine history since the 1500s. With precise crosses of just the right stallions with excellent mares allowed their gene pool to serve and raise the standard of many of today's breeds.
Powerful, courageous, and agile the PRE (Pura Raza Espanola) horse was an irreplaceable steed in war. These were the true and best War Horses in the world. These Military mounts were impeccably trained as well as their riders. When not in battle,the only worthy opponent to train these horses was the scrappy wild Bravo bull. These bulls were an indigenous animal of the Iberian peninsula, which showed an unusually fierce temperament and superior athletics. Thus was born the sport of Bull Fighting and El Toro de Lidia.
The selective breeding and aptitude for their use today produced a horse mindful and beautiful to watch, whom excels in the arena as well as parades and cattle work.
In 1808 Napoleon invaded the Iberian peninsula. He ruthlessly confiscated all property of value or importance. This included the magnificent Andalusian Horse of Spain. These horses were the lifeline of the military, the ranchero and the aristocracy. A small herd was saved and swept away into the safety of the arms of the Carthusian monks.
The Carthusian Andalusian or Cartujano served as a genetic treasure and the conservation of the purity of the Spanish horse. Some names of importance, but not limited to, are Benito, Jerez, Paco Lazo, Escalera Vasco and Terry. These are some of the very best lines and breeders in the Andalusian world. These lines also produce some of the world's most skilled and historically important horses.
